Once again, the citizens of Glen Cove must express their outrage at the proposed school tax levy increase. This year, as reported by the Record Pilot, the increase requested by the Glen Cove School system administration and five of the seven school board members was 9.04 percent. This is many times the cost of living or inflation rate in this country. The reason given was that "more than 6 percent was mandated or contracted costs." These costs were created by these very same administrators and school board members, by giving very substantial and unnecessary perpetual raises and benefits to the employees of the school district.

Two of the most knowledgeable and experienced members of the school board, Dr. Rodger Silletti and Vito Abbondandolo voted against this budget. If they voted no to this callous disregard for the financial health of the citizens of Glen Cove, so should we. Vote no on Tuesday, May 18 to this unwarranted increase.
