Two students from Glen Cove High School were honored recently at a dinner at the Milleridge Cottage for their outstanding performance in physical education. Each year the Nassau Zone of the NYS Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance sponsors the award and dinner for all Nassau County Schools.
Seniors Allen Shin and Giovanna Condello were selected by their physical education teachers at Glen Cove High School to receive this prestigious award based on academics, physical fitness, community service and leadership. Both Giovanna and Allen are involved in interscholastic sports as well.
Allen has been an outstanding physical education student throughout all four years of high school. He excels at the mile run and constantly challenges himself to better his personal fitness performance. Allen has completed community service with the Glen Cove Youth Board. He was nominated for the Youth Leadership Council Program and is captain of his cross-country team. He is a four-year member of the winter and spring track teams where he excels at hurdles. He has a GPA of 91 percent.
Giovanna is an excellent physical education student who takes pride in her fitness and is an example to her classmates. She is in the National Honor Society, the Italian Club, Mock Trial, Jazz Lab, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble and Marching Band. For community service she is an active peer tutor. She will be captain of the spring track team this year and she also plays varsity soccer and winter track. She has a 104 percent GPA and is ranked sixth in her class.
