North Shore to Offer Bond Referendum with Budget Vote
At the annual meeting and vote on the budget on May 20, the North Shore community also will vote on a $10 million bond for urgently needed work on the infrastructure of the five schools in the district, according to a decision made by the North Shore Board of Education at a special meeting on March 31. If voters approve the bond referendum, the budget for next year would be reduced by $2 million. Repayment of the new debt would begin in the 2004-05 school year.

North Shore High School Varsity Sports
The Vikings' season opener was a non-league game at Mineola. North Shore started off with a bang, scoring two runs on four hits in the first inning, but in the bottom half of the inning the Mustangs scored seven runs on two hits and three errors. After the first inning of play, both teams cooled off and no more runs were scored until the sixth inning. North Shore, down 8-2, showed signs of life in the top of the seventh but made several base-running mistakes and could only plate one runner, ending the game with a score of 8-3. Starting pitcher Bill Melillo, who performed well enough for a win, went six innings, allowing eight runs (two earned).

Last year was a great year for the boys' track team. They had a winning record and an all-county sprinter. This year is going to be a little harder because the team lost a lot of seniors. The good news is that the team has picked up new and wonderful participants for the 2003 season. The team's work ethic this year couldn't be better. The athletes on the team work harder and harder every day to improve and compete in their events.
