    On Thursday, Feb. 13, back in the days before the Blizzard of 2003 stole everyone's attention and energy, Glen Cove Mayor Mary Ann Holzkamp and Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi held a joint press conference at Steamboat Landing Restaurant on Shore Road to introduce members of Glen Isle Development, the organization the City of Glen Cove has selected to develop its long-awaited waterfront project.     True, Punxsutawney Phil, the most famous groundhog in America, predicted six more weeks of winter back on Feb. 2 when he saw his shadow at Gobbler's Knob in Punxsutawney, PA. Well, winter is one thing, but Phil forgot to predict the Blizzard of 2003, the fourth largest snowfall in the record books, which clobbered the northeastern United States from the mid-Atlantic states to New England, dropping between a foot and a half and two feet of flakes in Glen Cove and surrounding communities.   • Sports: Meet Glen Cove's Newest Hall of Famers

    The Glen Cove Hall of Fame Committee is pleased to announce that four new members will be inducted into the Glen Cove Hall of Fame when the 14th Induction Dinner is held on Thursday, April 3 at the Swan Club in Glenwood Landing. The four who will be inducted are Luigi Gallo (Track), Jacquie Gow (Coach), Marc Russo (Baseball) and Salvatore Travatello (Coach). FULL STORY

    The Vikings finished the season with an even .500 record -- 6 wins and 6 losses -- earning them a rank of fifth in their conference and 19th out of 41 teams in Nassau County. Senior Jamie "the Franchise" Collins, the team captain, demonstrated leadership the whole season, instilling fear in his opponents with big game after big game. Each week, the strikes just kept coming as he hurled eight games in excess of 240. His season high was a career best of 290, in which he opened with a spare and threw the next 11 strikes. Collins capped the season with a 208.4 average, third best in the conference and 18th in the county. He was named to the All County roster for his third consecutive season and competed in his final high school county championship on Feb. 8. FULL STORY
