Talia Haim and Jessica Lombardi were the high scorers at a meet against Lawrence last week, scoring 29.3 and 29.0, respectively but the Lady Vikings lost overall 120.6 to 147.9.

Molly Zeins, Leslie George, Sarah Koch, Haim and Lombardi all competed at the Coaches Invitational on Saturday. Lombardi's performance on floor awarded her a fifth place for Conference II.

Haim completed her sixth year of gymnastics as a senior at North Shore High School with a blast, receiving awards in each event -- tenth place on vault, fourth place on beam and second place on the uneven bars and floor. She was also awarded second place all-around for Conference II.

North Shore had a great season and achieved many accomplishments. The team is looking forward to next season.

The Vikings finished in third place out of all the teams in their playoff conference last week, losing to Herricks but victorious against Jericho. Matt Grefe and Adam Braithwaite pinned their Herricks opponents; Alex Hojnowski, Dan Carleton, Eddie Murray and James Doran won by decision. Against Jericho, Russell Barbour, Murray, Matt Kaplon, Grefe and Andrew Stern pinned their opponents and Carleton won by decision.

The pace of practice has picked up as the athletes prepare for the qualifying tournament in Long Beach this week. Any wrestler who places in the top four in his weight class goes on to the County Championships next week.

Lexi Pisciotto's three-pointer at the end of the third quarter lifted the Lady Vikings into a 37-37 tie with perennial Class C champions, Oyster Bay, on Saturday. However, North Shore couldn't quite hold on, losing in the final minutes. Nine players hit the scoring column with Meredith Vogenberger leading the way with 11 points.

Earlier in the week, North Shore dropped a 52-48 decision at Carle Place despite Pisciotto's 16 points that led the Vikings back from a 16-4 deficit early in the game.

Senior co-captains Meredith Vogenberger and Katie Degen continued to show the leadership necessary to lift their teammates to a successful season as the Lady Vikings faced two final games this week, including their final home game on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 4:15 p.m.

The Vikings were defeated by Locust Valley early last week with a final score of 67-54. Tim Schenkel and Bill Melillo contributed to the final score with 14 and 20 points, respectively. North Shore was down by two points at the half but couldn't respond when they came back onto the court. Melillo had 18 points when the team faced Westbury at mid-week, and the Vikings played hard but were overwhelmed by their opponents' ability, losing 82-46.

Melillo came up with 22 points against Sewanhaka on Saturday and Chris Galano had 13, but the hard-fought game was still in the loss column, 74-53.

On a team shy of upper classmen, Coach Giralomo says the young players have grown throughout the season. As it faces its final game this week, North Shore looks forward to the next few seasons and a more competitive Viking bench.
