Glen Cove Stands Up to Honor Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The City of Glen Cove began its 19th annual celebration the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with its traditional march; men, women and children stepping off from the First Baptist Church on Continental Place, singing their way through the downtown and finishing up at the Wunsch Auditorium at Finley Middle School. Longtime supporters of the Martin Luther King Day celebration, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Mike Moran Division 8, are sometimes overlooked as they walk at the end of the march, but they are there every year.

Fatal Accident on Forest and Phillips Road
On Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 4 p.m., the Glen Cove Police Department received a rash of emergency calls reporting an accident at the intersection of Forest Ave. and Phillips Rd. in Glen Cove. Det. Walter Moretto, GCPD, reported that the accident between a passenger car and a beverage truck claimed the life of 81-year-old Donald Groth of Bayvillle and required that his 63-year-old wife Carrie Groth be sent to NSUH at Glen Cove, where she remains in the intensive care unit. The determined cause of the accident was severe sun glare to the truck driver.

Sale of Golf Permits for 2003 Season Begins
Mayor Mary Ann Holzkamp has announced that the sale of golf permits for the 2003 season has begun. The permit sales office will be open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A new weekday annual permit is also being offered.
