On Nov. 6 more than 75 Glen Cove senior citizens were treated to the first of a new and innovative program at the senior center called Life Long Learning. We were stimulated and thrilled at the presentation which was made by Dale Zurbrick, recently retired drama and music director of Glen Cove High School.
He has been encouraged by Carol Waldman, senior center director, who instigated this program, to lead us in the investigation of the musicals of Broadway.
We sang the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein; we learned of their lives; we watched videos of their productions and felt that we were at a Broadway show.
This was fun! This was learning! This was a truly wonderful experience!
Dale Zurbrick has the rare ability to capture your imagination and bring you into his world of music and drama.
The programs will continue on at the senior center from 1:30 - 3 p.m. reviewing Rodgers and Hart on Dec. 4., Cole Porter Dec. 11 and George Gershwin on Jan. 8. Future dates are to be announced.
A sure sign that the participants were enthralled is that when 3 p.m. rolled around, Dale announced that anyone who wished to leave should feel free to do so. No one left!
Bravo for the Life Long Learning Program. Bravo and thank you to Carol Waldman and Dale Zurbrick. This is a "no brainer." Get down to the senior center and register for these future free presentations.
