Twenty-two years ago when we moved into our home in Sea Cliff, we were sent a census and were solicited to register our children in the North Shore schools. When our first child reached kindergarten age, we went to Sea Cliff School and presented proof of address. Our address was accepted and we became a member of the North Shore family.
Through the years, we were very active in the school PTA, the Superintendent Advisory Board and the Principal Advisory Board. We were also high school class parents for eight years. We instituted and coached the North Shore roller hockey team and we were members of the Athletic Advisory Board.
Now, after 22 years and having two children graduate from the high school, North Shore School District says that they have discovered that our home is not in their district. Our last child cannot finish his last three years there. Our child was kicked out, through no fault of his own! Dr. Root says: "We made a mistake and now we have to fix it." At the sake of our child!
This is not a money issue because we have offered tax money to the school and the school refused.
Shame on our Dr. Root and your board for not making the morally correct decision to allow our child to complete his last three years at the only school he has known and with his life-long friends. Neighbors can't believe it, other superintendents can't believe it, and your own teachers can't believe it.
You should be ashamed of yourself and never speak publicly about caring about children, because you obviously do not care. You and your board are not personally responsible for putting a 15-year-old through mental anguish and pain.
