Mayor Holzkamp and Stop & Shop Open Dialogue
Last month, Mayor Mary Ann Holzkamp invited representatives of the Stop & Shop supermarket chain to City Hall to begin a dialogue regarding the role the chain should take as a good neighbor in Glen Cove. Stop & Shop accepted Mayor Holzkamp's request and came to City Hall recently. During their discussions, Mayor Holzkamp said, "Glen Cove residents deserve competitive prices for quality products. I have been contacted by many of our city's residents who are concerned that Stop & Shop is trying to impede the opening of the new supermarket. Stop & Shop must be a good neighbor." Mayor Holzkamp apprised the Stop & Shop representatives of her commitment to the 100 percent occupancy of commercial properties. "I look forward to assisting you in your efforts to find a major new tenant for the former Edwards/Stop & Shop location on Forest Avenue. I know we have a mutual interest in welcoming a major retailer to that site," said Mayor Holzkamp.

The Vikings Win the Conference BVI Championship!
In sweeping the Wildcats of Wheatly High School this past week, North Shore garnered its first Baseball Conference Championship since 1998. The first game of the series, played on May 7 at the Vikings' home was a sloppy, error-plagued affair. North Shore managed to eke out the 8-7 victory, with Josh Micelotta the winning pitcher. Frank Guidici was the batting star with a double, a home run, and three RBI's. At Wheatly High the next day, Guidici again supplied the firepower with two doubles and four RBI's, leading North Shore to the 9-3 clincher of the pennant. Freshman Will Kunkel pitched effectively for the champs. On May 10th, there was a large home crowd on hand to witness the retirement of Coach Emeritus Mike Metzger's #37. The Vikings gave the hometown fans a glimpse at how effective they can be when the hitting, pitching and defense coalesce. Freshman Freddy Benyo was the winning hurler. Final score, NSHS-7-WHS-1. On Saturday, May 11, North Shore won its seventh straight contest in league play with a 5-3 tally over Conf. I's Bellmore JFK. Ross Tesoriero was the winning pitcher.
