The Boys Varsity Lacrosse team enjoyed their spring break with a 10-6 victory over Hewlett. Jumping out to a 3-0 first quarter lead, the Big Red was able to keep the Bulldogs on a short leash.

Joe Kopito scored two of his five goals on assists from Dave McCalla and Brian Fugazy. Fugazy also scored the first of his three goals. The second quarter began with a Hewlett penalty and a Marcus Bianconi goal on an assist from James Robbins. Fugazy netted his second, and the Big Red withstood a Bulldog rush and held a 5-4 halftime lead.

The second half saw the Big Red defense, led by goalie Dan Bellissimo (16 saves), Jeff Oglesby, Mike Puertas, Ben Lowell and Drew Beisler, hold the Bulldogs to one goal in each quarter. Meanwhile, middies Dom Bocchino, Jason Lindenbaum, Jeff Moore and Daniel Dela Cruz continuously cleared the ball to the attack.

The attack trio of Kopito, Fugazy and Chris Corbin would add five goals to the Big Red point total, while face-off specialist Matt Hurwitz controlled the game, winning all but one second-half face-offs. The Big Red is now 2-0.
