The Glen Cove Flames, a boys U-14 travel soccer team from Glen Cove started their spring 2002 season on March 9. Their first game was round one of the LIJSL Waldbaums Vytra cup. The Flames were placed up against the Hawks of the Baldwin Eagles soccer club. In an exciting game at their home field at Glen Cove HS, the Flames walked away with a 4-2 win, for their first win of the 2002 season, and are now looking forward to round two. Goals were scored by Giovanni Arce, Lee Liquori and Christian Vargas.
The Flames have been playing with much confidence since last season. The boys' successful fall season culminated with their third division championship in their soccer career. Their record for the nine game season was eight wins and one loss, with their only loss by one goal while playing short sided. The boys totally dominated their division. Game summary is as follows: 9-2 wins vs. Valley Stream Inferno, 5-0 win vs. Uniondale Rough Riders, 3-1 wins vs. W. Hempstead Black Hawks, 2-1 loss vs. Valley Stream Flames, 3-0 win vs. RVC Nitro, 5-1 win vs. Levittown Scorpions, 5-0 win vs. Albertson Avalanche, 5-2 win vs. NY Hota Vipers, and an 11-2 win vs. Bellmore Metrostars. The Flames outscored their opponents by 44-10. Congratulations are due for a job well done.
The Flames were also entered in the HBC Peter Renzulli Labor Day tournament 2001. In a five game tournament the Flames came away with four wins and one loss. They played to a 2-1 win vs. Sachem Seminoles, 4-3 win vs. Smithtown Bulls, 4-1 win vs. Syosset Sharks,.6-4 loss vs. Brentwood Revolution, and a 7-1 win vs. Island Trees Tornadoes.
The boys are pumped up and ready for their spring season. The 2002 Flames are: Miguel Alvarado, Giovanni Arce, Stephen Arominski, Francis Caceras, Jose Cruz, Carlos Espinoza, Matt Folan, Evan Francis, Lee Liquori, Michael Lowell, Alex Morra, Paul Pittas, Andrew Quinones, Stephen Rabanal, David Roussine, Brian Testa and Christian Vargas.
