Mae E. Farkas died on Feb. 12, 2002 in her 92nd year. She was retired from Sperry Gyroscope Corporation and was a member of VFW Auxiliary, Lake Worth, FL, and a longtime member and past Flotilla Commander of Flotilla 12-3, USCG Auxiliary. Wife of the late Frank F. for 72 years. Mother of Frank L. (Rose). Nana of Gail Massaro, Frank L. Jr., Donna (Ray) Grennan and Diana. Great-nana of Jill and Brian. Arrangements were made by the Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head. Funeral service. Interment Locust Valley Cemetery. Contributions can be made to St. Christopher-Ottilie, Sea Cliff.

Dustin M. Hill (NYC Police Officer-Midtown South), of Glen Cove, died suddenly on Feb. 12, 2002. He was a member of the Matinecock Rod and Gun Club and Ancient Order of Hibernians. Beloved son of Linda and Fred. Brother of Eric. Grandson of Anne. Also survived by his many aunts, uncles and cousins. Arrangements were made by the McLaughlin Kramer Megiel Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Religious services at Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment Locust Valley Cemetery. Donations in his name may be made to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center of NYC or NYPD Widows and Orphans Fund.

Harry H. Jamieson, formerly of Sea Cliff, died on Feb. 13, 2002, in Peachum, VT, at the age of 94. Born in Sea Cliff and brother of Jean Steward, Mr. Jamieson was very active in village affairs, serving on the Village Board for many years. He was also very active in St. Luke's Episcopal Church where he sang in the choir. Among those who remember Harry are Village Historian Frank O. Braynard and his wife, Doris. To them he was a great example of Sea Cliff "good neighborliness." His son, Dennis of Queens, and daughter, Mary Jamieson of Berkley, CA, survive Mr. Jamieson.

Robert J. Platt, 85, of Glen Cove, died on Feb. 13, 2002. Husband of Othilia (Cherrie). Father of Wendy Olesen (Russell) and the late Carol Ann. Arrangements were made by the Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Interment East Hillside Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation.

Donald Carson Death, 83, of Locust Valley, died on Feb. 14, 2002. Husband of the late Virginia F. Father of Donald C. Jr. (Pamela). Brother of Joann Willis. Grandfather of Preston and Jennifer. Arrangements were made by the Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Service and interment private. Donations can be made to St. John's of Lattingtown.

Joseph P. Doran, of Glen Cove, died on Feb. 14, 2002. He was a combat veteran of WWII serving with the US Army. Brother of Margaret Cekala, James D. (Barbara), George and Barbara Doran and Rosemary Huggins. Uncle of David (Patricia) Huggins, Jimmy, Joe, Adele and John. Great-uncle of Sean, Brendan, Gregory and Olivia. Arrangements were made by the Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head. Funeral Mass at St. Hyacinth RC Church. Interment St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Milton Hoffman passed away peacefully on Feb. 16, 2002 in Boca Raton, FL. He was the son of Rose and Solomon Hoffman and brother of Jean, Helen and Burt. He was born May 12, 1916 in NYC. Milton was raised in the Bronx and Brooklyn and graduated from Dewitt Clinton High School where he excelled in track and field and was All City Champion in numerous events. He was also very active in Scouting throughout his youth and would fondly remember with pride, serving then Governor Franklin Delano Roosevelt dinner around the scout campfire. Years after he would serve as a regional commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America.

Milton served 3 1/2 years in the Army Airforce during WWII and was chief mechanic supporting the crews during their overseas bombing missions. At the conclusion of the war he returned to work in the fur industry in Manhattan where he worked until 1954, when with his wife Marion, he opened Furs by Hoffman at 18 School St. in Glen Cove. His business was a respected and familiar name in the downtown area for almost 30 years. Milton and Marion loved their adopted hometown of Glen Cove, and while raising their family and running his business, he was involved in many local charities and organizations including active participation in the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, North Country Reform Temple, B'nai Brith and Boy Scouts.

After retiring he and Marion relocated to Lake Worth, FL, where he tirelessly gave of his free time to the Lion's Club, docent to the Flagler Museum, volunteered for Florida Stage at Manalapan and Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. It was not uncommon for travelers to see Milton in his sheriff's uniform directing traffic at West Palm Beach International Airport.

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter and son-in-law Susan and Dr. David Schwartzfarb of Boca Raton; son and daughter-in-law James and Sharon Hoffman of Seattle, WA; grandchildren Evan, Todd, Elissa and Mark; daughter-by-choice Carmen Bernal along with extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and large circle of friends and colleagues.

Memorial contributions may be made to the national or local chapter of The Jewish War Veterans.

Dr. Joseph M. Cassin, of Glen Cove, died on Feb. 18, 2002. Husband of Patricia E. Father of Brian, Elizabeth Howell (Joseph), Brendan and Kevin. Brother of Brendan J. Cassin. The family will receive friends at the McLaughlin Kramer Megiel Funeral Home, 220 Glen St., Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass at St. Patrick's Church Friday at 10:15 a.m. Interment St. Patrick's Cemetery. Donations may be made to Momma's House.

Dr. Louis Anthony Alchermes was born in 1913 in New York City. He then became a resident of Glen Cove in 1947. He was a graduate of L.I. University and the first Institute of Podiatry. He practiced podiatry in Glen Cove for over thirty years. He was the chief of podiatry at the Bellevue Hospital from 1941 until 1980; and the chief of podiatry at the Glen Cove Community Hospital from 1974 until 1988. Dr. Alchermes was a charter member for the American Podiatry Council and was a past president of the American Association of Medical Foot Specialists. Dr. Alchermes was also an active member of the Glen Cove community. He served on the Glen Cove civil service commission from 1956 until 1959, and was a member of the Glen Cove Zoning Board of Appeals from 1974 until 1985. He was a police surgeon for the Glen Cove Police Department. Dr. Alchermes was also an active parishioner of St. Patrick's Church. He was an usher at St. Patrick's, a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society and Holy Name Society as well as the Knights of Columbus, James Norton Council. He was predeceased by his wife Jannette and is survived by his daughters Linda (Thomas) Vanosterhout, Janie(Joseph) Reilly, sons Stephen (Darilyn) and Brian (Christina), 17 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
