Little Joey Gilio, of Glen Cove, was born with a rare blood disorder, Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome, a potentially fatal disease.
A cure for this disease is possible through a bone marrow transplant. A tragic accident took the life of little Joey's father, Joseph Sr., before Joey was born, so a chance for a match from another sibling is not possible.
After an exhausting 18 months of searching, blood drives and private testing, little Joey Gilio still awaits a donor to help save his life. Unless a match is found, little Joey Gilio is at a great risk for life threatening infections and hemorrhaging due to the conditions associated with this disease.
St. Boniface Church of Sea Cliff will be holding a one day blood testing drive to encourage people to be tested for little Joey. A simple blood test is all it takes. A few minutes out of your day could mean saving the life of this precious little boy.
Blood testing will be done at St. Boniface Martyr Church, 12 Main St., Sea Cliff, on Saturday, March 2, from noon to 4 p.m. in the gymnasium.
You must be between 18 and 59 years of age, in good health, with no history of illness, i.e., cancer, diabetes.
We are life saving mechanisms. Please show your support by being tested. A small sacrifice for the life of a little boy who needs your help.
