In Thursday's, Jan. 10th edition you had a very nice tribute to Mary Floccari on her 100th birthday. Very nice and I also congratulate her. However, there was an error in your story. You said, "She is Glen Cove's only Gold Star Mother."
I am also a Gold Star Mother - my son, Spec. 4 Dennis Brian Murray was killed in Vietnam on June 12, 1969. Please set the record straight - If I am forgotten, then he will be forgotten.
I wonder if there are any other Gold Star Mothers in Glen Cove? Reporters should always check the details of a story. When Dennis was killed, one newspaper reported that he lived in Locust Valley - wrong - he was born and raised in Glen Cove. Another paper reported that he had no siblings - he had a brother Shawn and a sister Carol. It was a long time ago, but I will not forget it.
Thank you for your attention to this letter.
Genevieve W. Murray
P.S. I see in today's paper (1/17) a picture of Mrs. Floccari and Steve Gonzalez, again stating that she is "Glen Cove's only Gold Star Mother." I don't understand this misconception, as Steve certainly knows who I am!
