Alexander Norwesh, of Glen Cove, died on Dec. 26, 2001. He was a graduate of St. John's University School of Pharmacy, owner of Bondi Pharmacy and he was active in the Glen Cove Senior Center where he played with the Continental Band. Brother of Elizabeth Prusas and Edward Norwesh. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by the McLaughlin Kramer Megiel Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Funeral Mass celebrated at St. Patrick's Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery.

Eleanor Lutes Kelley, formerly of Glen Head, died on Dec. 30, 2001. She was born in Oyster Bay on Jan. 5, 1920. Wife of George S. Mother of Lynn Pappas (Chris) and Barbara Kelley (Martin Rebholz). Grandmother of Ryan, Suzanne and Pamela Rebholz. A private service will be held in the spring. Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Madeline A. Cheretun (formerly Pickering), of Sea Cliff, died on Jan. 2, 2002. Wife of Alexander. Mother of Paula Gladsky, Bruce, Alan and Janet. Grandmother of Kristin (Gerald), Michelle and Amanda. She was known to many and will be missed by all. Arrangements were made by the Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head. Funeral Mass at St. Hyacinth Church. Interment East Hillside Cemetery.

Stephen ("Steve" as he would like his name referred to) E. Paine died suddenly on Jan. 2, 2002, at his home on North Conway, NH. He was 48 years old and formerly lived in Glen Cove. He attended St. Patrick's School (renamed All Saints Parochial School), went on to Chaminade High School and received his diploma from Glen Cove High School. After attending Eisenhower College in upstate NY for two years, wanderlust found him in Tempe, AZ, where friends told him about North Conway. Steve fell in love with the New England lifestyle especially the breathtaking fall season and bought seven acres of land. An existing house was expanded and he and his cat "Ted" had many happy years tending the land and his garden. He loved skiing. Three years ago he received a certification in mediation, fulfilling his wish to help people. He leaves his mom, Jeanie of Boca Raton, FL; two sisters, Christine Ann Gould of Locust Valley and Lori K. Nicastro (Stephen); and one nephew, Sean A. Gould of Sea Cliff. Arrangements were made by the Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Funeral Mass at St. Patrick's RC Church. Interment private.

Elliott F. Whitely, of Glen Cove, died on Jan. 3, 2002. He was a real estate broker and worked 40 years for Columbia Ribbon & Carbon. Husband of Josephine. Father of Elliott (Susan), John (Jette), Andrea Marmorale (Frank), Geoffrey (Leslie) and the late James. Grandfather of Elisa, Sarah, John, Michael, Thomas, Colin, Lauren and Daniel. Great-grandfather of Madison, Breana, Aidan, Avery and Meghan. Arrangements were made by the Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head. Funeral Mass at St. Hyacinth Church. Interment St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Oscar Steadman Jr., 57, of Glen Cove, died on Jan. 3, 2002. Father of Oscar III (Meredith). Grandfather of Oscar IV and Mia Leslie. Brother of Mary Jane Dryer, Alwillie Mays and the late Lulmay. Nephew of Pearl Fribbley and William Johnson. Also survived by many cousins and friends. Arrangements were made by the Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Donations may be made to the NY Diabetes Association, 401 Broad Hollow Rd., Melville, NY 11746.
