Rocco Albanese, 64, of Glen Cove, died on Dec. 16, 2001. He was a cabinet maker. Husband of Antonietta (nee Gilio). Father of Angelo (Anna), Rosa Morra (Daniel) and Anthony (Gina). Brother of Giuseppe, Paolo, Dona-Tina, Antonio, Giovanni, Domenico and the late Beatrice. Grandfather of Silvana, Paula, Olivia, Daniel, Sarah, Angelo and Nicholas. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by the Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Funeral Mass at the Church of St. Rocco. Interment Locust Valley Cemetery.

Stephen "Steve" Petkanas, 79, of Clearwater, Florida, formerly of Glen Cove, died on Dec. 19, 2001. He was a US Army veteran of World War II where he served as a medic.

Steve was a retired furrier and had moved to Clearwater from Glen Cove several years ago. In Glen Cove, Steve was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Resurrection having served as a charter board member back in the mid 1970s. He volunteered his time during the church festival as the flea market chairman and for several years, Steve was the chairman of the church's buildings and grounds committee. Following his son Gary's death from complications due to the AIDS virus, Steve became a board member of LIAAC, Westbury, with his mission being to bring AIDS awareness to young adults-most especially high school students.

In Clearwater, he was a member of the St. Stefanos Greek Orthodox Church where he participated with the Sunshine AHEPA Association, Agape Club and the Leisure Timers. Steve was also a past president of the Clearwater Trinity Church Group and a former board member of the Horizon House Apartments.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mary; two daughters, Lia DiNapoli of Ossining and Stephanie Petkanas of Manhattan; a son, George T. Petkanas of Putnam Valley; a brother Ernest of Huntington; a sister, Elaine Rusulis of Clearwater, Florida and four grandchildren. All who knew and loved him in Glen Cove and Florida will sorely miss Steve's smiling eyes and ready chuckle.

Funeral arrangements were by Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes and Cremation Center-Largo Chapel, St. Petersburg Florida.

Edwin F. Hendrickson died on Dec. 18, 2001 at his home in Glen Head with his family at his bedside. The cause of death was pancreatic cancer. Born on Dec. 29, 1910 in the then farming community of Bridgehampton to Howard and Edith (nee Rogers) Hendrickson. He attended public school there and went on to receive his undergraduate and law degrees from Cornell University. He was admitted to the firm of Root, Clark, Buckner and Ballentine in NYC. In 1941 he was called to active duty in the US Army. He served as an artillery officer with the First Infantry Division in campaigns in North Africa and Sicily and landed on Omaha Beach during the Normandy Invasion.

At the end of WWII, Mr. Hendrickson stayed in the US Army Reserve eventually retiring with the rank of colonel. His military service having begun in the horse drawn artillery was completed in the age of the computer. Returning to civilian pursuits in 1946, he rejoined his former firm. Two years later he joined the firm of Payne, Wood and Littlejohn in Glen Cove for a career that spanned over 50 years and led to a senior partnership. Greatly respected in the legal profession, Mr. Hendrickson was honored this past April by the NC Bar Association in celebration of the 60th anniversary of his admission to the Bar.

Mr. Hendrickson was an avid golfer all his life. As a youth in the 1920s, he caddied at the National Golf Links and the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club at Southampton, thus helping finance his college education. Later he was a member of the Cherry Valley Club at Garden City and the Piping Rock Club at Locust Valley. Aged 88, he sank his last hole-in-one at the Miles Grant Country Club in Stuart, FL, where he and his wife of 63 years, Margaret Weeks Hendrickson, had wintered for several years. Both had previously wintered in Homestead, FL, for over 25 years. Besides belonging to a number of professional organizations, Mr. Hendrickson was a member of the Hempstead Harbor Yacht Club, the First Division Society, the Holland Society and the Townsend Society of America.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Hendrickson is survived by his children, Edwin Jr. of Sag Harbor, Howard of Tarrytown, NY and Margaret H. Kessler of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren; two great-grandsons; a brother Richard of Bridgehampton; and a sister Edith Williams of Raleigh, NC. Arrangements were made by the Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head. There will be a memorial service held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Sea Cliff at 11 a.m. on Jan. 12. The family prefers, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, PO Box 1010, Torrance, CA 90505 or Hospice Care Network, 900 Merchants Concourse, Westbury, NY 11590. Committal will be private.

Barry Craig Tilton, of Northport, formerly of Glen Head, died on Dec. 21, 2001. Son of Joseph and the late Margaret. Father of Craig (Judy), Bradley (Barbara) and Barry Craig (Christina). Grandfather of Danielle, Matthew, Peter and Keith. Brother of Todd. Arrangements were made by the Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head. Funeral service. Interment private. Contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, PO Box 4284, Pittsfield, MA 01202-4284.

Grace Schierhorst (nee Amrhein), formerly of Glenwood Landing, died on Dec. 21, 2001. Wife of the late Harold. Mother of Glenn Schierhorst and Linda Schierhorst Zwakhals. Sister of Mae Guth and the late Eleanor Laskowsky and brother Charles Amrhein. Arrangements were made by the Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head. Interment Nassau Knolls Cemetery.

Madeline C. Sullivan, 92, of Port Washington, died on Dec. 23, 2001. Wife of the late Frank E. Mother of Paul D. and the late Patricia Piekarz (Mitchell). Sister of William Junge. Grandmother of Allison, Roxanne, Kent, Stacey and Dana. Great-grandmother of Chelsea and Cameron. Arrangements were made by the Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Interment Brookville Cemetery.

Joseph John Di Leo, of Glen Cove, died on Dec. 26, 2001. A veteran of WWII, he was a retired sergeant of the Old Brookville Police Dept., former president of the Nassau Police Conference, a member of the American Legion, Lodge /Simmons Post, VFW, Elks Club and the Moose Club of Glen Cove. Husband of Alice Harris. Father of Jean Flammio, Katherine Faber and Edward. Father-in-law of Richard and Sonya. Grandfather of Melissa, Jennifer, Danielle, Stacey, Derek and Alexa. Great-grandfather of Gabrielle. Arrangements were made by the Marcus L. Bianconi Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Funeral services. Interment Nassau Knolls Cemetery.

Alexander Norwesh, of Glen Cove, died on Dec. 26, 2001. He was a graduate of St. John's University School of Pharmacy, owner of Bondi Pharmacy and he was active in the Glen Cove Senior Center where he played with the Continental Band. Brother of Elizabeth Prusas and Edward Norwech. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by the McLaughlin Kramer Megiel Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Funeral Mass celebrated at St. Patrick's Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery.

Mary A. Miller, 85, of East Meadow and Garden City, died on Dec. 26, 2001. Wife of the late Charles. Mother of Joyce A. Schneider (Thomas) of Locust Valley. Sister of Joseph Abatiello and Thomas Abatiello. Grandmother of Thomas Schneider and Christine Schneider. Arrangements were made by the Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Giuseppe (Joseph) Last-Gallizzi, 41, of Glen Cove, died suddenly on Dec. 30, 2001. Husband of Vincenzina. Father of Angela, Maryann and Francesca. Son of Mariangela and the late Francesco. Brother of Silvana Belcaro (Giuseppe). Also survived by nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Arrangements were made by the Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove.
