The Glen Cove Peanuts team of the city's junior football league finished their season with a perfect 10-0 season and a three-foot tall trophy allowing them to reign supreme as the Long Island 2001 champions. These five and six-year-olds can really play football! The boys played an eight game schedule in their division and defeated all of their opponents. With no playoffs in the Peanut League, the team went on to challenge the best teams in Suffolk County and defeated them also. The team's motto all season was "The Cardinals Rule the Roost" and that's what they did-along with a positive attitude, respect, dedication and sportsmanship.
I would like to thank all of the Glen Cove Junior Football League board members, coaches, parents and especially all of the children for their time and effort. I would also like to thank Zefy Christopoulos and the rest of the staff at the Glen Cove Record-Pilot for another outstanding job well done.
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year to all. God Bless America.
