The Glen Cove Pony White Team placed an exclamation point on a perfect season finishing off the Lindenhurst Gold team by a 30-15 score. The team's 17th consecutive victory, capped off a perfect 12-0 2001 season. Trailing late in the first quarter by a 7-0 score, the Ponies hit "paydirt" with a 40 yard Roberto Lyons run to come within a point of the lead. Lindenhurst relentless in their quest maintained ball control and seemed headed for a half-time lead. However quarterback Michael McCrinkle led the team to a late second quarter lead with a 45-yard "bomb" to Roberto Lyons giving the Ponies a 12-7 lead at the half. The Ponies came out strong in the second half and scored quickly with Lyons running behind the blocking of David Rupp and his backfield partner Alex DiScala for a 35 yard score. Team play and consistency continued to characterize the remainder of the game. Kevin Basile, Matt Cloninger and Rob McGrath made numerous defensive stops. Timothy Maher's and McGrath made key recoveries on sidekick attempts by Lindenhurst. Taliek Vasquez, Bobby McLaughlin and Jeffrey Fonseca made key plays from both their defensive and offensive positions. Matt and Steven Rogers were consistent as usual.

Stuart Thurman and Travis Stern throttled the Lindenhurst offense at each snap of the ball. Craig Mitchie, Kevin Maccarone and Ralph Cancel excelled when called to step in. Vincent Graziose's key runs between the offensive tackles keyed the tempo and paved the way for the team's continued second half dominance. His strong 30-yard run on which he broke four different tackles and dragged several defenders gave Glen Cove an insurmountable 24-7 lead. This was soon 30-7 when Roberto Lyons stormed through the defense for his fourth touchdown of the day. Lindenhurst did score in the waning moments to make the score 30-15, but the door was slammed shut when Rob McGrath recovered an on side kick and Alex DiScala's running allowed the Ponies to run out the clock. Then time expired the Ponies had their second consecutive Super Bowl division title. The accolades are too long to list but this team's success is a tribute to all who have made junior football in Glen Cove a respected and sought after program. Congratulations to the hard work put in by Coaches Joe Floccari, Michael McCrindle, Salvatore Basile and "Doc" DiScala. Thanks to the support of the parents, grandparents and friends of the team. A special thank you to Susan DiScala, Lynn Basile and Alice McCrindle. Our appreciation to league president Rob Kormoski who is always supportive. Seasons greetings and peace to all.
