It was a beautiful fall morning last week, as the Midget Red Cardinals took to the not-so-frozen tundra of City Stadium. The opponent was the Copaigue Eagles and the tension began to mount as the teams readied themselves for the kickoff.

Right from the start, it was going to be a Cardinal day, as Randell Lyons recovered Eric Tripp's onside kick for the Cardinals. Taking advantage of the short field, Randell would score his first touchdown of the day, behind the devastating blocking of James Theodoreou, Joey Durso, and Peter Cappiello. Randell also ran in the conversion.

Copaigue drove to the GC goal line, but the defense of Richie Maccarone, Kristen Cornelis, Antonio Stanco, Pierro, DiLorenzo, Brian Brown, Zach Boyajian, and Nate Booth would shut the Eagles down.

The next series saw Mike Granados, Kenny Catanzano, Anthony Hendriks and Anthony McCarthy lay the licks, as Terry Jackson and Jonathan Ruiz, racked up big yards. The drive stalled, but the Eagles were pinned deep in their territory. The Cardinal defense forced a fumble, setting up Dougie Tripp's first career touchdown! Randell would run again for the conversion, and the Cardinals were in control.

Randell would hit the endzone again, early in the third quarter, on a long run. The whole offense contributed great blocks on the play, leaving plenty of Eagle feathers all over the field. Richie Mac was stopped just short on the conversion run.

After the lone Copaigue touchdown, center Anthony Bucceri made his presence known. On a fourth and inches, Anthony turned a simple quarterback sneak into a 45-yard Eric Tripp touchdown run!

The Midget Red is now 6-3, and looking forward to Sunday when Bethpage comes to town.

Glen Cove was moving the ball but again turned it over on an interception. Neither team could generate much offense for the remainder of the half.

The second half started with Levittown taking over on the 50-yard line. On the third play of the series, the Levittown halfback raced around right end for a 45-yard TD run, making the score 13-0. Glen Cove promptly handed the ball back to Levittown on their third turnover of the game. After trading possession, Levittown scored another TD to make it 20-0. With time running out in the second, Glen Cove marched down to the 10-yard line. With five ticks left on the clock, Chris Borer passed to Michael Iannetta for a TD making the final, 20-6.

The Midget white finishes the season this Saturday at Lindenhurst.

Last Sunday, the Glen Cove Peanuts went to Brentwood to take on a 6-2 Copiague team in the Turkey Bowl that would decide the 5-6 year old Long Island Championship. Glen Cove at 8-0 was as ready to play this game more so than any game this year. They knew what was at stake and they were pumped up. They came out passing and right away you could see Copiague did not know what to do and ultimately Glen Cove would go up 6-0 on a pass from James Catanzano to Tony Palmieri. The game stayed that way for the rest of the first half. Right before the half, Copiague would hold Glen Cove on the 5-yard line, halftime saw Glen Cove ahead, 6-0.

After some halftime adjustments, the Peanut Cardinals would start the second half with the ball and scored three plays into the third quarter on a run up the middle by Ryan Perkins to make the score 12-0. Joseph Anile, Billy Flahive, Cristian Klimazewski, Matthew Petersen, Joshua Figueroa, Kristopher Moran, Peter Lizza, Steven Giordano, Zehgan Joshi and Thomas Milne provided great defense.

The Cardinals went up by a score of 18-0 when Tiquan Garner took a handoff and scampered around the left side for a 50-yard dash. Copiague would score a late touchdown to make it an 18-6 Glen Cove lead.

The boys got that one back when Tyrone Davis scored around the right side for a 24-6 lead that would seal the victory. Joshua Schwartz had a couple of nice runs and he and all the boys played great football. The team left the field with a three-foot tall trophy that proves they are the best on Long Island. All the participants received a medal and hot dogs and soda. Glen Cove was voted outstanding team by the referees and organizers. Glen Cove is not quite done. There is an undefeated team in Hauppague that wants to challenge us. We're ready.
