I read the article in last week's paper in which four No. Shore School Board members were called the "Gang of Four." This may be so; however, the word courageous was left out because they stood up for what they think is right and not influenced by the dissenters.

The dissenters do not represent the thousands of voters in the North Shore school district. Could it be they have their own interest at heart?

I have lived for 20 years in the district and have seen our school ratings down and our taxes go up. Some people will say the ratings don't mean anything and that our students are well-rounded. But try getting into a decent school or a good job when you are up against students who have a better academic education.

In an article in last week's Record Pilot 88 members of the Golden Ring Club signed a petition in support of Dr. Root. The monies they receive are part of the school budget and must be approved by the board, not Dr. Root, who by the way does not live in the district - it's not his tax money - it's yours and mine.

If they are dissatisfied with the board they have their democratic right to vote for someone else at election time. In the meantime let them do their job they were elected to do.
