(The following letter was sent to the North Shore Schools Board of Trustees and is printed here at the request of the authors.)
We at Glenwood Landing School have had the pleasure of working with Dr. Robert Root for many years, first as assistant superintendent of instruction and later as superintendent. We know him to be very dedicated, intelligent, and a kind man, who is committed to excellence in education for all the children of our school.
The decision of the board on Monday, Oct. 15, was not based on the consensus of the Glenwood Landing School and we have not seen any dialogue supporting the board's decision. Glenwood values teaching our children the importance of being responsible citizens and acting in a democratic forum. We feel that in light of these difficult times, this board has displayed characteristics contrary to what we believe in.
With that in mind, we respectfully request those members of the Board of Education who voted not to renew Dr. Root's contract to reconsider their decision.
