On Tuesday, Oct. 9, the varsity volleyball team beat Valley Stream South by a score of 30-16, 29-31, 30-24, 30-9. Junior Erika Granros secured the win in game 4 by serving 16 straight points, including 9 aces. Granros finished to day with 18 aces. Junior Aubrie Dillon continued Glen Cove's serving arsenal with 7 aces of her own. "Aubrie is so strong and has so much power", stated Coach Vito," She has worked so hard to control that strength and that really paid off on Tuesday." Junior Tammy Pagnillo added 5 kills on the match. "Tammy is always working on her hitting," added Vito, "She's constantly asking me to stay after practice to make herself better." Also contributing to the match was the sophomore dynamic duo of Kelsey Velasquez (8 aces, 6 kills, 2 blocks) and Diana Diaz (4 aces, 4 kills, 8 assists).

On Friday, Oct. 12, the team fought hard but still lost to Levittown Division by a score of 30-23, 27-30, 23-30, 24-30. "The last time these two teams met, Division won in straight sets," Vito stated, "So this really shows how the team is improving." Leading the team in the front row, was junior Jean Erlandsen, with 9 kills. Leading the team in the back row was junior Mary Mazza with 10 digs. Also contributing were Diana Diaz (10 aces, 13 assists, 7 kills) and Kelsey Velasquez (13 kills, 4 aces, 7 digs).

On Oct. 6 Glen Cove won its seventh game of the season by defeating Great Neck North 3-2.

After 9 minutes into the game Glen Cove was down 2-0 against the powerful GNN offense, but Glen Cove steamed back with a goal by Herbert Lazo with just minutes left in the first half. Glen Cove came out strong in the second half and dominated the game. Mike Grella scored off of a rebound just 11 minutes into the second half. Later Ben Lowel assisted on Jose Oliva's game winning goal. The Glen Cove Goalies Andrew Morra and Frank Carrotta shut GNN down the last 72 minutes of the game. Defenders Jason Lindenbaum, Mike Gonzalez, Scott Arnone and Isreal Cruz helped in the winning cause.

On Oct.11, Glen Cove tied Oyster Bay 3-3. Three times in the game Glen Cove was down by one goal, and three times they came back. Goals were scored by Mike Grella (2) and Herbert Lazo. Herbert also assisted on both of Mike's goals. Glen Cove has been hit by injuries to several starters, but the reserves have stepped up and played excellent soccer. Frank Carratta was in goal and defenders Tony Condello, Jason Lindenbaum, Isreal Cruz and Scott Arnone along with midfielders Ben Lowell, Dom Bocchino and Richie Rivera kept a very strong Oster Bay team in check as well as helped create many offensive chances for the Big Red forwards.

On Oct. 12 Glen Cove defeated Mineola 1-0 in nightcap at Pascucci Field. On homecoming weekend, after the pep rally, and after the girls soccer double overtime tie, the boys soccer team defeated Mineola in a league game 1-0 under the lights of Pascucci Field. Many of the players from last season's team came back to help cheer the team on. The game's one goal was scored by Herbert Lazo and assisted by Dom Bocchino. The defense was led by goalie Frank Carrotta and played a great game keeping Mineola's forwards in check. Defenders Scott Arnone, Mike Gonzalez, Jason Lindenbaum and Isreal Cruz along with midfielders Ben Lowell, Jose Arevalo, Tony Condello, Edwin Vasquez and forwards Richie Rivera and Mike Grella contributed to the team's win.

In a Tri meet on Oct. 9 the Big Red was led by Luigi Datallo (19:46) in his 16th place finish against very strong Wantagh and Lynbrook teams.

Also running for the cross country team was Mike Biscardi (19th - 20:29), Allen Shin (20th - 20:32), Manjit Singh (21st - 21:07), Jason Geller (25th -23:03), Tin Chin (26th 23:44), William Ng (27th - 25:43) and Max Bikoff, (28th - 25:43).
