Contract of North Shore Superintendent Not Renewed
An announcement was made at the beginning of the North Shore Board of Education meeting on Monday, Oct. 15, that the board had voted not to renew the contract of Superintendent Robert Root, which expires in June of 2002. The board must give eight months notice of their decision to renew and at a meeting on Oct. 9, they voted 5 to 2 not to renew his contract, with Trustees Brennan and Murphy voting for renewal.
Food Business Consumes Planning Board
Providing food for thought on the Glen Cove Planning Board's agenda for their meeting of Oct. 16 were the continuation of a public hearing regarding an upscale supermarket project on Forest Avenue and making a decision on a Starbuck's, (proposed for Glen Cove Avenue), and the reopening of the diner, (at Orchard Plaza).
Garvies Boat Ramp Docks to Be Removed
The City of Glen Cove Department of Parks and Recreation along with the Glen Cove Harbor Patrol will be removing the docks from the Garvies Point Boat Ramp during the week of Nov. 12, tide and weather permitting. Speed buoys and markers will also be removed at that time.
Glen Cove High School Big Red Sports
On Tuesday, Oct. 9, the varsity volleyball team beat Valley Stream South by a score of 30-16, 29-31, 30-24, 30-9. Junior Erika Granros secured the win in game 4 by serving 16 straight points, including 9 aces. Granros finished to day with 18 aces.
