Seventh No New Taxes Budget for Glen Cove
The Glen Cove City Council unanimously adopted next year's proposed $24,809,388 spending plan during their Oct. 9 meeting. For the seventh consecutive year, there is no tax increase in the budget, a budget that Mayor Thomas Suozzi called reasonable with conservative estimates with little reliance on one-shot revenues.

Eight from North Shore Named in National Merit Scholarship Competition
Eight North Shore High School seniors received recognition in the prestigious Merit Scholarship Program, a nationwide competition among the brightest students. Two students - Kate Berthold and Richard Galati - were named semi-finalists, and six were named commended students. The commended students are Alexis North, Gabrielle DeRosa, Allison Cannarsa, Jane Li, Perry Krug and Daniel Galvin.

Last Sunday the Glen Cove senior team defeated Copiague by the score of 26-9. Brian Monahan got things started for Glen Cove when he returned the opening kickoff to the Glen Cove 40-yard line. The offense went on a long scoring drive which was capped by halfback Brandon McFaddin scoring from three yards out. The extra point failed and Glen Cove led 6-0.
