After a week off, the Glen Cove Crusaders girls U-10 team was ready for a battle and a battle it was. The Crusaders came off a tough 3-2 loss the first game of their inaugural season with Samantha Cala scoring both goals. The Crusaders went up against the 1-0 Mineola Breakers.

As co-captains Christa Pascucci, Stephanie Falzarano and Colleen Galick went on midfield for the coin toss, they brought the Stars and Stripes with them. After the toss, both teams were asked to meet at midfield and hold the flag together in the spirit of unity. At this point, Coach Pascucci asked all the parents to join the teams for a moment of silence in remembrance of the World Trade Center victims and in honor of all the rescue workers who are toiling with all their strength each day.

The game was a defensive battle from the beginning with the first half midfielders Erin Bergano, Lauren Capobianco and Christa Pascucci providing the first line of defense battled to keep the ball up front to help the defenders Laura Genova and Chelsee Marks. Laura and Chelsee formed a brick wall to shots on goal to a minimum. First time goalie Natasha Pajovic who had five saves for the day helped to shut down Mineola to zero goals. Other great defensive and midfield play came from Tricia Genova, Jaclyn Bialer, Colleen Galick and Nicole Fonseca who was nursing a pulled muscle from play earlier in the day. The teams also worked hard to try to poke holes and penetrate Mineola's line of defense. Fighting their way forward was Samantha Cala, Oliva Goldson and Stephanie Falzarano. Stephanie had a tough time but managed to get four shots on goal and Tricia had two. With our six shots on goal to their five, we finished in a tie.
