Heartfelt thanks to all the people, organizations, businesses, synagogues and churches who responded to our two-week relief effort here in Glen Cove for the rescue workers at the site of the Sept. 11 atrocities at the World Trade Center.
Drop-off sites were opened at Congregation Tifereth Israel, the Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church, St. Patrick's, St. Paul's and St. Rocco's churches and at the Trousdell Village cooperative apartments. So many responded to our need for volunteers at each of the sites and I am very grateful for all those who were involved. A special thanks to the management, board and residents of Trousdell Village. They arranged to pick up supplies at several of the other drop-off centers and brought them to Trousdell where everything was sorted and packed. The center was open every night and on the weekends. A car wash was held by the maintenance staff and youth with all proceeds going to the relief workers. The help by Carolyn Willson of Mayor Suozzi's office made the coordination of his effort possible. As always, she is a real trooper.
We raised a great deal of money, food and supplies and Island Harvest has assured us that everything we collected will go directly to the rescue effort. They will be working there for months to come.
