In the final weeks of the season, the Glen Cove Muddogs completed a series with the SYAG Braves and the N.S. Giants. Winning both series brings their record to 12 and 4. With five games to go they are making a run for first place.
In the SYAG series both teams came to play. After the Muddogs allowed one unearned run in the first, they held the Braves to a one-run ballgame. In the fifth inning, Julian Medina started a rally followed by Steven Heimer, Mike DiCarlo and Gabe Ermmarino. They popped base hit after base hit, bringing in the RBIs, winning the game 4-to-1. In game two, the Muddogs came out flat allowing three runs early and had to play catch up the whole game. In the seventh inning, they launched a comeback second to none. The Muddogs tied the score, but then ran out of gas allowing one run to lose the game 4-to-3. Game three brought new life and a desire to win. The Muddogs got a second wind and started cranking right from the start. They produced four quick runs by Medina, Mike Luchiano, Jose Lebron and Bill Melillo. The Muddogs kept coming with P.J. Como popping a double and Kurt Cornelis knocking a base hit. With the Muddogs ahead by one and looking for some insurance, John Perrone went along with a long fly ball over the monster, putting the team up by two for the final score of 10-to-8.
In the next series, the Muddogs' opponent was the N.S. Giants. The Muddogs kept the bats alive with Como and Lebron scoring in the first and then in the sixth. The Giants had a meltdown with the Muddogs going through the order and scoring seven runs in a rally started this time by Anthony Carrotta, final score 10-to-1. Game two, the Muddogs let down and could not quite get it together. They allowed two unearned runs due to errors in the first and never recovered. They, once again, launched a comeback in the seventh inning. Matt Jalbert started it off as they were able to tie it once again, but just couldn't score that winning run. They lost game two, 4-to-3.
