The Glen Cove Red finished its season in the tournament, 7-0, with excellent pitching and fielding and with the best hitting in the tournament. The following players deserve recognition: Tommy DeCarlo, Peter Cappiello, Ricky Maccarone, Terry Jackson, Kevin Donovan, Joey Fiorino, Pantro Reyes, Stefan Schwartz, Jimmy Bacchioni, Brandon Figueroa, Brandon Losee, Kyree Washington and Anthony Bucceri. Tom DeCarlo, Peter Cappiello, Rich Maccarone and Al Losee provided a great coaching job, as well as all the parents who assisted the team.
With the Mayor's Trophy Tournament under way, the Glen Cove Red 13-year-old team is undefeated, having allowed only two runs in its first three games. The team has played solid defense as well as offense. The pitching rotation consists of Bill Melillo, Jose Lebron, Anthony Carrotta, Anthony Bellock and Gabe Ermmarino. The team remains solid with John Perrone, Julian Medina and Matt Jalbert in the infield and in the outfield, Kurt Cornelis, P.J. Como, Mike DiCarlo and Brian Monahan. Behind the plate is Steven Heimer. The team was assembled from the local league after a tryout. The players also compete in the National Junior Baseball League.
The Mayor's Trophy Tournament is a tournament run by the Glen Cove Junior Baseball & Softball Association. This year's tournament has over 120 teams from all over Long Island and New York City. It is known as one of the best local junior baseball tournaments and is full to capacity every year. The 13-year-old division has teams from Mineola, Port Washington, St. Paul's as well as three teams from Glen Cove.
