The City Planning Board has unanimously approved the residential projects proposed for Glen Street and Pratt Boulevard. In my experience as an architect working with developers, an approval without compromise and modification has never occurred. The developer's threat of all or nothing based on economic considerations should have been considered the opening play of a poker game. Once again, I should state that I am greatly in favor of two projects that alleviate existing eyesore situations.
However, I have been consistent in my feelings that the projects, especially at Pratt Boulevard, are overscaled and further fail to afford sufficient benefits to the citizens of Glen Cove. Apparently, the County Planning Board came to the same conclusion. It is difficult to understand why the Glen Cove Planning Board chose unanimously to ignore their recommendations and mine. At best, Glen Cove will achieve the mediocre.
