Steve Gavosto of Glen Cove, a sophomore, has received the Most Valuable Player Award from the golf coaches at Long Island Lutheran High School. "I have had a space reserved on my wall for this award for awhile and I am proud to receive it," a very excited Steve said.

"We had a very short high school season, but we made the most of it. Our team is relatively young, but I would match them up against any team, private or public in Nassau County. As captain, I tried to pump them up whenever I could, and hope that I had a little left for myself. That's what a captain does. I want to thank the athletic director, Gary Proce, for giving us these great looking red tournament shirts; you could pick us out in the fairways like stop lights. The Spartans of Greece had red shirts (togas) so that it was not noticeable when they bled during a battle." The team did fairly well this spring and did not have too many wounds.

"This summer, for the team, is going to be a growing stage where we will be able to physically compete with most of us working our way up to the long ball," Steve noted. The highlight of the year was when the golf team went to the Concord Resort upstate and competed in the NYSAISAA tournament where they finished with three LuHi players in the 70s. They tied for first place and, ultimately, were awarded "runner-up" after a matching of cards.

"Right now I will not have time to enjoy this award with two more final exams to take, and the summer tour about to gear up into full swing."
