On Sunday, June 3, the Glen Cove High School Booster Club hosted their annual, fun-filled day of "Anything Goes" at Glen Cove High School.
Thanks to the generosity of the Spy Family, the students of Glen Cove High School enjoyed a day filled with a little friendly competition between the classes and a lot of laughs! What a wonderful thing it is to see this very special family in action as they give so selflessly to the students of Glen Cove High School year after year. The Spy Family takes it upon themselves to organize and run the entire day's festivities. Potato Sack Races, Obstacle Courses and a very slippery tug-o-war were just a few of the contests participated in by members of the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes. The class scores are tallied at the end of each event. At the conclusion of the day, the winning class is announced. The 2001 Anything Goes First Place winner was the "Senior Class"!
During the course of the day the Glen Cove High School Booster Club supplied cold drinks, barbecued hot dogs, watermelon and oranges for the students and the spectators.
A heart-felt thank you to the entire Spy Family and their friends, who so generously gave of their time. The memories we take from special days like these are priceless. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
As the Big Red Baseball team finishes the 2001 season in second place in the division and going to the second round of the playoffs, six players achieved honors for Glen Cove. First team All-County honors went to Matt Lindenbaum and Craig Hansen. Matt, the leading hitter for the Big Red with a .375 average, was chosen to the All-County team as an outfielder. Craig, a Junior, led the pitching staff and was second in the county with 84 strikeouts.
Making All-Conference honors are Senior outfielder Joel Basilion who led the team in stolen bases and runs batted in. Joining him is Sophomore Short Stop Frank Carrotta who led the team in homeruns.
Rounding out the selections were the Big Red's All-Division players led by Senior Pitcher Keith Dempster, a 4-year started on the pitching staff. Also All-Division is first baseman, sophomore, Tom Monahan, who hit .333 for the Big Red.
Congratulations to all the players of the Big Red Team for another successful season!
