The first hour of the North Shore Board of Education meeting on Monday, June 4 was a celebration of tenure awarded to 13 North Shore teachers. Six teachers in the high school, Jennifer Imperiale, Francis Johnson, Maryalice Krauss, Kevin Mercier, Lisa Minicozzi and Ronald Schwartz; three teachers in the middle school: Dominick Gatti, Joseph LaMelza and Brian Seligman, and Assistant Principal Kathy Razzetti; one teacher from Sea Cliff School, Jason Hill; one teacher from Glenwood Landing School, Bridget Rooney; and elementary band teacher Arlene Taub were all given tenure appointments. Three teachers, Audra Berritto from Glen Head, and Andrea Cullen and Melissa Levy from Sea Cliff, who had been granted tenure in January, were also recognized and congratulated. All five principals and Performing Arts head, Tom Jones, had enthusiastic and heartfelt praise for what high school Principal David Seinfeld called a "bumper crop" of teachers.

Outgoing SGO board representative Chris Miritello announced that Nora Sidoti, a member of next year's junior class will replace him as the student rep at all board meetings.

Terry Glassman from Glen Head, asked if signs could be put up on school grounds reminding the community of the upcoming budget vote on June 12. Superintendent Bob Root said that signs are always placed at each school on the day of the vote and letters would be going home this week to remind the community of the time and place. There was almost no audience for this last board meeting before the vote and therefore no questions from the public.

Dr. Root went on to congratulate SGO rep Chris Miritello for winning the North Shore Faculty Award at Moving Up Day last week. He also announced that the Long Island Council of Social Studies Teachers recognized North Shore's Bob Williams as Chairperson of the Year and the Foreign Language Association of Chairpeople and Supervisors had recognized Curriculum Associate Ellen Shields.

Construction at the high school will continue throughout the summer. The walls of windows in the front hall will be removed and replaced with plywood until the new windows are ready for replacement sometime in the fall. The new multi-purpose room is a week behind schedule due to bad weather but should be finished along with the new west wing by September. The main office, the guidance offices and Performing Arts will be moved to another area of the school during the summer due to the construction. The Summer Recreation Program will be held in the middle school.

Sea Cliff School is expected to be completed by October, and new furniture for the library will be delivered in August. The new Glenwood Landing Library will be completed in a week and books and furniture will be moved in during the summer. The ground-breaking ceremony for Glen Head School will be on June 22. The rest of the meeting was a discussion by the board of 8000 and 9000 series district policies.

The final board meeting of this school year is scheduled for Monday, June 18, at 8 p.m. in the high school library. The North Shore budget vote will be held on Tuesday, June 12 from 7 a.m. - 10 p.m. at the high school.
