MaryAnn Holzkamp

"Judge our team on our vision and years of accomplishment," said Councilwoman MaryAnn Holzkamp upon announcing her candidacy for mayor of Glen Cove at The Metropolitan Club last week. Holzkamp, who was introduced by Glen Cove Mayor Thomas Suozzi, is a four-term city councilwoman and Glen Cove businesswoman. She will be joined on the Democratic ticket by candidates for city council Anzelmo Graziosi, the city's current deputy mayor; Joseph Gioino, who is running for a second term; Tony Jimenez, also running for a second term; Joan Meehan, seeking a fourth term; Dr. Albert Granger, running for a fourth term and Michael Norman who is seeking a fifth term.

MaryAnn Holzkamp has been a city councilwoman since 1994 and has served as liaison to the Chamber of Commerce, vice chairman of the Glen Cove CDA and as an officer of the IDA. MaryAnn is a founding member of the Business Improvement District for downtown Glen Cove and has served on its board of directors since its inception. She is a former Wall Street securities trader and brings her experience as a successful local businesswoman to the table. MaryAnn and her husband, George, own Neger-Gilder Flowers in Glen Cove. They are the parents of three children and the grandparents of three. "Believe me, I know what a tough act Tom Suozzi is to follow. Tom has been an extraordinary leader and a good friend. Our styles may be different but our goals are the same," said Holzkamp when announcing her candidacy.

"I am proud of Team Glen Cove and all we have worked for and accomplished in the past seven and one half years. When Team Glen Cove first took office, our city was on the brink of financial disaster, our downtown was a maze of empty storefronts, our waterfront neglected, our creek area polluted, our police and city court were housed in trailers and our bond rating was one step above junk status," continued Holzkamp.

Anzelmo Graziosi is an attorney and adjunct professor of history. Joseph Gioino is an attorney experienced in the field of prosecution of illegal, multi-family housing violations and is presently an assistant town attorney for the Town of North Hempstead. Tony Jimenez is a former Glen Cove EMS chief and is currently a senior court officer in Nassau County Supreme Court. He is the liaison to the youth board, EMS and veterans affairs. Joan Meehan has committed her years on the city council to helping the senior citizens of Glen Cove and has served on the CDA. Dr. AL Granger is a successful endodontist with practices in Glen Cove and Garden City. He is the liaison to the youth board, the library and the public works department. Michael Norman is a CPA who has been instrumental as a council person since 1994 in cutting spending and balancing the city's budget. Norman is the liaison to the school district and is an officer on the IDA.
