We congratulate Janet Bates-Wilkins and Dr. Kurt Schmeller on their election to the Glen Cove School Board. We know they will be independent, intelligent, responsive, and outspoken school board members.
We thank Robert Lupinskie and Dr. Jeffrey Spector who will retire from the school board next month after many years of service. They have led the schools through a difficult period that is not yet over. During their tenure we have seen the appointment of a superintendent of schools who is energetic and enthusiastic in letting the community know how well run and frugal our schools are and have also seen the appointment of other excellent new administrators.
We thank Frank Fiumano, assistant to the superintendent for business, who will be leaving at the end of this month, for his diligent work to keep the district financially healthy and for helping us understand parts of the school budget during the past two years.
We thank Natheley McElrath for her continuing contributions to the children of Glen Cove with her AAAC Bookmobile, her successful referendum to shorten school board terms to three years, and her persistent efforts to increase the number of minority teachers in the district.
We thank the hundreds of people who have contributed to the Coalition for Glen Cove and have worked for the past year to provide accurate information about the Glen Cove schools and to help elect fair and responsible people to the school board.
We know that the Glen Cove schools are good and provide an appropriate education and social experience for every student. We know that our teachers are knowledgeable, talented, respectful, and devoted to their students. We know that our administrators are professional and fair leaders who work hard to maintain a coherent and economical school system.
