The people have spoken. They have seen through the highly scripted, highly organized, mean-spirited campaign of the FOSS squad of sycophants with their catch phrases ("schooligans," "PAC of school employees," etc.) repeated as their mantra to try to pull the wool over the taxpayers' eyes. Until the final vote tallies came in, I had planned to have my neurons checked by my doctor but I think I'll wait until next year. My case of neutron anxiety has subsided.
We have elected Janet Bates-Wilkins and Kurt Schmeller. It seems like Rick Smith has produced another "show" as in win, place and show, with his third-place finish. The voters finally saw through the self-aggrandizement to find the real Smith. Just one more thing for the FOSS (if they still exist as such).
Come to more school functions and you could see things that have the human qualities so missing in your minions, like the look on our groundskeeper Matt Rogers' face and the tears in his eyes after our Glen Cove Girls Varsity Lacrosse team clinched our league championship. He was happy that he had a small part in their success. In spite of a contingency budget forced upon him and the entire district by the previous incarnation of FOSS, the Friends of Glen Cove and Education, Mr. Rogers still took great pride in his work and his fields were a tribute to his dedication to our students and the district. How could the FOSS look so dispassionately and so negatively at Mr. Rogers and his fellow school employees? The big question is how closely Dr. Schmeller will stick to the Smith script? I hope he remembers when he was an "educator" and a "school employee."
So for now, au revoir, Guy et Normand, see you next year. Perhaps as something new. Perhaps as the Friends Like Us Brunelles or FLUB.
