The Glen Cove Republican Committee has nominated David L. Zatlin as their candidate for mayor of Glen Cove. According to the committee's chairman, Joseph M. Reilly, Zatlin was nominated by acclamation at the City GOP convention held May 12 at the Knights of Columbus in Glen Cove.
Upon accepting the nomination Zatlin called on all "Glen Covers regardless of party affiliation, background and neighborhood to come together in order to make our city the best it can be." Mr. Zatlin said, "I'm extremely proud of the confidence shown me by the Republican Party and also gratified by the outpouring of support from voters across the city."
Mr. Zatlin is a lifelong Glen Cover and is presently a New York state housing official. He was a longtime local businessman and throughout his life he has been active in numerous religious, business, civic and fraternal organizations. Mr. Zatlin is a graduate of Glen Cove High School and holds a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Bradley University in Illinois. Joining him on the GOP ticket will be city council candidates Steve Gonzalez, Frank T. O'Regan, Ronald Pascucci, Luis Vasquez, Barbara Vissichelli and Philip T. Zuccala.
Steve Gonzalez is a four-term former city councilman. He is active in several fraternal and civic organizations. Mr. Gonzalez coordinates a mentoring program for eighth grade Hispanic students in the Finley Middle School. He helped organize the human relations committee. Mr. Gonzalez worked on the city's noise ordinance and was among the people who implemented the city's initial recycling program, (1988). He is currently a human relations specialist with the New York State Division of Human Rights and is a member of the US Senate Task Force on Hispanic Affairs.
Luis Vazquez is the executive director of the Coordinating Agency for Spanish Speaking Americans, (CASA), the president of the Long Island Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and is the acting chairman of the Nassau County Minority Affairs Committee. Mr. Vazquez is a product of the Glen Cove public school system. He said the motivation to run for public office came on the heels of last month's Finley Middle School Rising Star program for which he was the inspirational speaker. "I think Glen Cove has come a long way and we have to take it further. I am happy to be able to give back to Glen Cove as much as I can and I'm very proud to be a Glen Cover."
Frank O'Regan was born in Glen Cove and attended the public schools. He was the captain of the high school's Big Red football team. Mr. O'Regan is an attorney and an adjunct professor of economics at Briarcliff. He is also a trustee of St. Rocco's Church in Glen Cove. Mr. O'Regan would like to raise a family in Glen Cove and keep the city's hometown feeling. "I thank God for all my achievements and it's my duty to give back to Glen Cove," said Mr. O'Regan.
Barbara Vissichelli is the mother of two teenagers. She graduated from Adelphi School of Nursing in 1977 and worked until her children were born. Mrs. Vissichelli stayed home to raise the children and did extensive volunteer work at her children's schools. Once the children became older, Mrs. Vissichelli went back to study gerontology at Southampton College where she became a certified gerontologist. She is currently working toward her master's degree. Mrs. Vissichelli was on the committee working on a fund raiser for the American Heart Association and also does volunteer work with PAWS, (Pioneers for Animal Welfare). The family attends the Church of St. Patrick.

In the 1970s, Mr. Zuccala ran unsuccessfully for public office-- commissioner of accounts-against then 10-year incumbent Tony Galuccio.
Ron Pascucci is second generation "born and raised" in Glen Cove. His father, Ernie, was Commissioner of Public Works for 16 years. Mr. Pascucci said growing up with his dad being a commissioner he was afforded the opportunity to learn a lot about how Glen Cove is run. Mr. Pascucci works for New York City Department of Transportation as an Operating Engineer Local 15. He believes having this kind of personal and work experience brings a unique quality to the Republican ticket, a quality the city hasn't seen in quite some time. Mr. Pascucci is a member of the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department, (22 years) and is active in numerous charitable endeavors. Following in his late father's footsteps, Mr. Pascucci has been chairman of their blood drive for the last 15 years and he has continued in the Knights of Columbus holiday food basket delivery to deserving families.
