On Sunday, March 11, the Glen Cove High School Kickline competed in the Long Island Scholastic Kickline Championships held at Nassau Community College. Having placed third on Jan. 14 and fourth on Feb. 4, the hard-working team knocked out their previous opponents by clinching second place in their division out of eight other teams and brought home a beautiful trophy!
Captained by seniors Stephanie Arominski, Erin Loeffler and Erica Schor, the girls performed a flawless routine to Phantom of the Opera. These three young ladies were responsible for the choreography as well as the choice of dance music. During the football and basketball seasons they performed every home game at half time, and at the annual pep rally prior to Homecoming. Just like in the Olympic gymnastic competitions, their routine must contain the requisite number of kicks and difficult maneuvers, etc., to qualify as well as flawless precision and posture.
Coached by teacher/advisor Susan Cornell, the competition team included: senior captains - Stephanie Arominski, Erin Loeffer, and Erica Schor, junior co-captains - Leslie Andino-Mendez and Nadia Martino, and team members Gabbi Anastasio, Sandra Belcastro, Marjorie Bell, Gisella Bonilla, Jackie Bruce, Maureen DeAngelis, Darlene Diaz, Jennifer Digal, Victoria Dilgard, Erika Granros, Jennie Granros, Grace Liang, Betzally Mendoza, Amanda Moretto, Kaitlin Nelkin, Christy O'Brien, Jasmine Sarker and Christianne Stallone. Other kickline members include: Karina Alvarenga, Lindsay Eisenstadt, Samantha Millwater, Jordy Prince, Halley Tull, Sulieka Vazquez, Kara Vilcheck and Stacy Woodman. Our congratulations to this entire team for their dedication, perseverance and a job well done!
