Board Agenda to Include Silent Meditation and Antenna
The Glen Cove Board of Education met in special session on Monday, Feb. 12 in the high school library. The board deliberated on agenda items to be included for their regular meeting on Feb. 26 in the middle school. In two weeks, the board may be discussing the implementation of having a moment of silent "meditation" to begin the school day in all the district's buildings, the leasing of space at the district's maintenance facility on Old Tappen Road by Sprint PCS for the installation of a 100-120 foot high tower housing an antenna, the professional development plan, the new stipulations in the SAVE legislation regarding school safety and a code of conduct for the district, the Coles School property and driver education.
Knights of Columbus Tournament Winners
The Knights of Columbus James Norton Council, recently held its annual Free Throw Tournament at St. Pstrick's gym in Glen Cove. Grand Knight Bob Panzenback, who heads the CYO program at St. Patrick's, recruited some of Glen Cove's finest young athletes to participate in this statewide competition. The winners will participate in the next round of competition on Feb. 24 at St. Mary's in Roslyn, with winners proceeding to West Point for the final rounds.
Glen Cove Jr. Baseball and Softball Celebrates 50th Anniversary
On Saturday, Feb. 10, Glen Cove Jr. baseball and softball closed the 2000 season with its 50th Anniversary Dinner Dance celebration. The event was held at the K of C hall with over 100 past and present friends and supporters attending. Special guests included past Commissioner Tony Ranieri (1984-87), past Commissioner Marty Cohen (1988), and past Chairman Mike Maher (1976-93).
