Opinion

I have been led to believe that the Carpenter Cemetery, located adjacent to the Sea Cliff school yard, is privately-owned property that has been under the jurisdiction and responsibility of the village of Sea Cliff for quite some time now.

As a neighbor in the area, I must regretfully report that the cemetery has become a haven for dog-owners as far as several blocks away. Apparently, these people think they have a right to use this property for their pets.

The result is not only disgusting but, in my opinion, very disrespectful to the families of those persons buried there.

If Sea Cliff cannot handle this escalating problem, perhaps it should hand over the responsibility to the Town of Oyster Bay which might be convinced to put a protective fence around the property to keep out the insensitive intruders.

In any case, something should be done.
