For the past five seasons at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, the Glen Head Zig Zags have stood alone as the local standard bearer in the 1880s Old Time Baseball League. Now it appears a cross-town rivalry, dormant for over 100 years, has been resuscitated with the entry into the league of the Sea Cliff Idewilds. These rookies from Sea Cliff have been brazen enough to challenge the Zig Zags, now celebrating its third century of no gloves, no fear Úquot;moxie baseball,Úquot; to an 1887 rules match on Sept. 10 at 1:30 p.m. at Clifton Park in Sea Cliff. Glen Head co-captains Dan Moskowitz and Neil Miritello readily agreed to participate in the event sponsored by the Sea Cliff Museum. All are welcome to enjoy the refreshments and festivities in a venue that has hosted baseball games for a century.
The Zig Zags are in the hunt for an Old Bethpage pennant. Its remaining regular season games are Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. and Oct. 1 at 11 a.m. On the following weekends of October 6 and 7 and October 14 and 15, the Championship Series is played during the Long Island Fair at Old Bethpage Village. Come see our brand of baseball played without gloves, but with heart and grit
