Susan Turnbull Edlin, 44, of 204 East Monroe Ave., Fairfield, Iowa, died Monday July 31, 2000, in her home.
Mrs. Edlin had requested that memorials be made to Fairfield Public Library, Jefferson County Hospital Mammography Fund, or Jefferson County Hospice, all of Fairfield, Iowa.
Mrs. Edlin was born Feb. 24, 1956, at Bryn Mawr, PA, the daughter of Robert and Eileen Turnbull. She married Andrew Edlin March 17, 1984.
She graduated from North Shore High School in Glen Head and received her degree in education in May 1980 from West Chester State College in Pennsylvania. She and her husband lived in Andover and London, England before moving to Fairfield eight years ago.
She was a substitute teacher in the Fairfield Community School District and worked with Area Education Agency Preschool. She was a Girl Scout leader and co-chairwoman of the Washington Elementary Parent-Teacher Group.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Holly Edlin and one son Zachary Edlin, both at home; her parents of Beesley's Point, NJ; and three brothers, Carey Turnbull and Jeffrey Turnbull, both of Fairfield and Mark Turnbull of Woodbridge, VA.
A memorial service was held Thursday August 3, 2000 in Fairfield, Iowa. A memorial is planned for New Jersey at a later date.
Jean Augusta Homer, of Sea Cliff and Toll Brook, NH, died recently. Wife of Bernard for 68 years. Mother of Merlin, Jonathan, Thomas and Jason. Grandmother and great-grandmother of 13 wonderful human beings. Sister of Edna and Betty. She devoted her entire life unstintingly to her family, including her mother, Ruth, and father, Harry. She devoted all her "spare" time to humankind (as a teacher of K to 12) and as a volunteer to many programs and organizations, especially children and elderly persons, visually and other handicapped. She loved the art of the dance and music. She was very active in the organization of musical groups such as the Omega Ensemble under the direction of her friend, Doris Koenig, and the LI Little Orchestra and the LI Singers Society, under the direction of her dear friend and cherished companion Clara Burling Roesch (Hardt). If there is a heaven, Jean Homer is sailing a boat and singing with angels. Arrangements were made by the Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
William Grube, 91, of Glen Head, died on July 29, 2000, after a long illness. He was born Aug. 4, 1908 in Kassel, Germany and came to the US in 1926. He was employed by the H.C. Bohack supermarket chain for 46 years, retiring in 1972. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Glen Head, and a 65-year member of Glen Cove Lodge of Masons #580. He is survived by his wife Maria (Molly); his son Walter Grube of Glastonbury, CT; son-in-law Siegfried Breunig of Glen Head; four grandchildren, Robert Breunig of Glen Head, Glenn Grube of S. Windsor, CT, Lynnell Raftery of Brighton, MA and Heidi Grube of Glastonbury. He was predeceased by a daughter, Ruth Breunig, and by a daughter-in-law Barbara Grube. Ethel T. Davis, a long time resident of Sea Cliff, formerly of Great Neck, died on July 31, 2000. Wife of the late Fred John Emmerich and Carol H. Davis. Mother of Nan Scrivener.
