William H. Barlow, a lifelong resident of Sea Cliff, died at his home on July 16, 2000. He was 84. During WWII, Mr. Barlow was a field-grade officer in the 105th artillery and served in combat in North Africa, Italy and Southern France. For a time he was instructor of American material with the Septieme Chausserurs D'Afrique. Proficient in French, he was occasionally called upon to be an interpreter. He was awarded the Medaille de la France Liberee and was named an Honorary Brigadier of the French Army. He received the Purple Heart for wounds in action. Mr. Barlow held degrees from Columbia University. His varied career included banking, journalism/editing at the Manhasset Mail in the 1950s, public relations with the Salvation Army and hospital administration at Booth Memorial Medical Center in Queens. He was retired since 1979. Over the years he participated in various community activities, including theater groups, the Huntington Men's Choir, the Sea Cliff Historical Museum and St. Boniface Martyr Church. He was the son of William H. Barlow and Martha Merz Barlow. He is survived by his sister Grace Mandigo; his brother Roy Barlow; nieces Barbara Mandigo Cunningham and Joyce Barlow Dodd; and nephews Donald Mandigo and Barton Barlow. Arrangements were made by the Nolan & Taylor-Howe Funeral Home, Northport. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Boniface Church in Sea Cliff on Aug. 2 at 9:30 a.m. Interment of ashes at Cypress Hills Cemetery.
Hilda Reynaldos, 67, of Glen Cove, died on July 17, 2000. Mother of Yara Vegas, Herman Vegas, Robert Vegas and George Vegas, Alberto Calderon and Jose Santiago. James V. Forgione, 66, of Locust Valley, died on July 19, 2000. Husband of Eula. Father of James V. Jr. (Lisa), Jeffrey A. (Helena) and Anthony J. Brother of Josephine Sarro, Rosemarie Izzo, Annabelle Ahlstrom and the late Mary Pietrafessa and Larry Fiorini. Grandfather of Darla, Joseph, Lewanna and Jesse. Arrangements were made by the Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Mass celebrated at St. Rocco RC Church. Interment Locust Valley Cemetery. John J. Burns, of Sea Cliff, died on July 20, 2000. He was formerly mayor of Sea Cliff, NY assemblyman, Town of Oyster Bay supervisor and commissioner for local government. Husband of the late Norah. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Visiting Thursday and Friday, July 27 and 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head.
