On Monday, Aug. 7 at 7:30 a.m., the 12th annual John Maccarone Hall of Fame Golf Tournament will be held at the Glen Cove Golf Course. All the money raised from this tournament goes to the John Maccarone Scholarship Fund, which was set up in honor of the city's late recreation supervisor and founder of the Glen Cove Hall of Fame. To date approximately $18,000 has been awarded to outstanding academic-athlete students. This year, as a result of the 1999 golf tournament revenues, two $500 scholarships were awarded to graduating seniors from Glen Cove High School -- Katherine O'Brien, who will be attending Notre Dame, studying international finance and Lukasz Babiarz, who will be attending John Hopkins University's pre-med program.
The cost for the tournament is just $60 per golfer, which includes greens fees, carts, continental breakfast and a barbecue lunch. There will be trophies for low gross for both men and women, as well as prizes for closest-to-the-line and closest-to-the-pin.
Tee sponsors are also available for $75 each -- a great way to promote your business or to honor a loved one.
To reserve your spot or to sponsor a tee, send your check, payable to the Glen Cove Hall of Fame, to the Parks & Recreation Dept. Glen Cove City Hall, 9 Glen Street, Glen Cove, or stop by Room 305 in City Hall during business hours. For further information, call the Parks & Recreation Dept. at 676-3766.
