Proposed Charter School Introduced
Representatives from the Association of Italian American Educators, (AIAE), and a company called Edison Schools held a meeting on June 29 to introduce a proposed charter school to be located at an as yet undisclosed site in Glen Cove. While the school's location is currently under negotiations and the application process is scheduled to commence this October, the AIAE plans to hold several more informational meetings regarding the Leonard A. Covello charter school, a school which the organization says will serve the culturally diverse Glen Cove community.

Warm City, Cool Sound, Tall Ships
From June 30 through July 2, Glen Cove celebrated its third annual Waterfront Festival at Morgan Park to the delight and excitement of more than 80,000 people. Local residents shared in the revelry with folks from all of Long Island, the rest of the tri-state area, and some who traveled from places like Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island to enjoy the fleet of tall ships visiting the harbor, the caravan of classic cars on display, and all-day entertainment throughout the park. Food vendors offering a diverse choice of cuisine were plentiful, as were kiosks selling gifts, toys, jewelry and clothing, and carnival rides and games . In short, there was something for everyone, which was fortunate, because it seemed everyone was there.

After another very successful year the Glen Cove Junior Golf is pleased to announce an expanded schedule for their 2000 Junior Golf development programs. They will be conducting a summer and fall session of clinics on Saturday afternoons.
