Opinion

After attending last week's school board meeting I was appalled at some of the responses by the leaders of the pack of Nay Sayers, Bill Boeddener and Phil Enright. I wish all of you who threw their unwavering support behind the defeat of the budget and the election of Rodger Silletti could have been there to hear the mumbling and bumbling that came from their mouths. Phil didn't acquit himself very well at all. When pressed for an item he wanted to see eliminated from the budget he was able to come up with something he voted for! You would think and hope he'd do his homework. Then Bill Boeddener sounded confused at best and foolish at worst. He said he would "never" vote for a budget as long as our district was a member of the NYS Small Schools Association. Less than $3,000 dues! When pressed if he would vote for a budget that didn't contain that provision he could only muster up an "I don't know." I want more from school board trustees. Just voting "no" without a real agenda for improvement and change shortchanges everybody including those who support them. But it seems those who support the Nay Sayers don't care if we are on austerity or not. They don't care about the students who get shortchanged as long as they can vote "no" and they erroneously think that a no vote means no tax increase. Well, that kind of misguided opinion doesn't do anyone any good. Austerity, besides the damage it does to our kids, means lower home values and I would bet that their home is the single largest investment that most of those nay sayers have and by voting "no" they are hurting themselves. They are letting people like Rocky Imerti, who hasn't had a positive thought in years, tell them how to vote. They have jumped on Rodger's bandwagon presumably because they like his attack style. And they believe the lies that the Piano Exchange had plastered all over their front window until they were ordered to tell the truth. Are all of you nay sayers that negative that you must listen to those people? Do you really want to take this budget down on the backs of the students? Rocky Imerti does, Bill and Phil do too, and Piano Exchange promotes lies that hurt our kids also. Is that what you wanted by voting "no?"

We all have a chance to right that wrong by voting yes on June 20.
