On a very hot Monday, May 8, the Glen Cove girls took to the field against West Hempstead. After playing a very loose first half, the Big Red was leading 7-6. Nicole Trotta was outstanding in defense with the aid of the speed of Liz Beisler. Too many mental errors kept the score close. In the second half the girls really pulled it together, they passed with accuracy, moved the ball with skill and played an all-over great game. Jaime Basile, Kristie Anzalone, Erica Schor, Laura Tripp and Laura Gabbamonte had some fabulous moves and shots. The final score was 18-10 Glen Cove!
Goal scorers for the day were: Jaime Basile (6), Kristie Anzalone (three goals, three assists), Erica Schor (three goals), Laura Gabbamonte (three goals), Liz Beisler (two goals, one assist), Laura Tripp (one goal), Amanda Moretto (one assist).
Two days earlier, on a steamy Saturday afternoon the girls took on local rival Locust Valley. The last time the two teams met ended in a tie. This game was again very closely contested with the half time score 5-4 in Glen Cove's favor. Nicole Trotta and Victoria Dilgard were instrumental in holding Locust Valley to very few shots. The second half stayed very close until the final six minutes when Locust Valley scored twice. The Big Red tried hard, taking many shots but unable to score. The final was 11-9 for Locust Valley.
Goal scorers for the day were: Jaime Basile (three goals, four assists), Erica Schor (three goals), Laura Gabbamonte (two goals, two assists), Laura Tripp (one goal). Goalkeeper Jackie Bruce had 10 saves.

The Boys Varsity Lacrosse team swept another week, by beating New Hyde Park and Elmont. The two wins push the Big Red to 10-5 overall, and tie a school record for most wins in a season!
New Hyde Park entered the game in second place, but the Big Red would come out victorious in an 8-7 double overtime victory! Despite two Dave Brown goals in the first half, the Big Red trailed at the half 4-2. New Hyde Park opened the second half scoring, but the quarter belonged to Glen Cove, as Alex Gratsias, Paul Graziosi and Jon Torres would score (all on assists from Brown), to even the game at 5.
Things looked bleak for Glen Cove, as New Hyde Park scored its second man-up goal of the fourth quarter to take a 7-5 lead with 4:21 left in the game. But, the Big Red would not give up. Dave Brown again tied the score with two goals (on assists from Chris Corbin and Alex Gratsias), the last coming with 58 seconds remaining! Glen Cove would get one last try for the win, but could not convert, and the game would head to overtime.
The Big Red defense, led by Brad Beisler, Dave Graziosi and Chad Gleason would shine in the first overtime, even killing a Glen Cove penalty! Goalie Dan Bellissimo would make four OT saves, and the game headed for a second overtime.
As the action started in the second overtime, the tension started to mount, knowing that each possession would be crucial, and could end the game! After New Hyde Park forced a turnover, a long pass would be intercepted by Dave Graziosi. Dave quickly passed to Dave Brown at the midfield line, who fed Jon Torres behind the New Hyde Park defense. Torres came down one-on-one with the goalie, and would let fly. His shot would be deflected by the goalie, but Chris Corbin would pick up the OT victory of the year!
The second game of the week was a little easier, as the Big Red would open an 8-1 half time lead en route to a 11-4 rout of Elmont. Seven different players would score, led by Dave Brown and James Robbins with three each. Defenseman Brad Beisler would score an acrobatic goal, to open the game. Jon Torres, Paul Graziosi, Chris Corbin and Chris Thaw would also add goals for the Big Red. Corbin, Thaw, Brown and Tom Robbins would add assists.
With his 11 points (seven goals, four assists) in the two games, Dave Brown would move into second place in career scoring for Glen Cove lacrosse!
