The recent three-day NY State Masters Swim Championships at the Nassau County Aquatics Center saw the down-staters dominate, and the older age groups harvest the lion's share of the gold. With over 330 men and women competing at the center, all areas of New York and several neighboring states were represented as well as a team from Belarus, Russia.

Glen Cove's Dick Guido, now 82, won five state championships: the 1,650 yards, 500 yard and 200 yard freestyle events and the 100 yard and 200 yard individual medleys. He lost out in the 100 yard backstroke, by one second, to Huntington's Bill Rowe, 84, who also took gold in the 50, 100 and 200 yard backstroke and the 50 yard freestyle. Bob Mosard, 79, chief lifeguard at North Hempstead Aquatic Center, won the 50, 100 and 200 yard freestyle titles in the 75-79 age bracket.
