Sea Cliff Mayor Proposes 4.84 Percent Tax Hike
After five years without an increase, Sea Cliff taxpayers face a 4.84 percent tax hike. The tax rate will be $19.72 per $100 of assessed valuation in this $3,168,428.85 budget. The amount to be raised by taxes will be $2,749,738.85 with other revenues coming from, among other things, mortgage taxes, building permit fees, collection of fines and beach permits fees.

Justice Lally Rules Ferry Lawsuit Is Without Merit
"Completely without merit" is the way State Supreme Court Justice Ute Lally described the arguments made by the Village of Sea Cliff and the North Shore Environmental Alliance in their lawsuit against Glen Cove to stop passenger ferry service operating between Glen Cove and New London, Connecticut. In her detailed decision rendered Wednesday morning, April 11, Justice Lally also noted that Sea Cliff and the Alliance offered no reasonable explanation why they waited until the ferry service started to file the lawsuit.

In the most exciting game this season, the boys varsity lacrosse team upset MacArthur in overtime. Under new rules, all overtime games are "sudden death" which made every second important and the outcome more satisfying. Alex Gratsias intercepted the MacArthur goalie's outlet pass, dodged the defense and fed a wide-open Dave Brown on the crease. Dave faked out the goalie and placed the ball into the goal to cap off a thrilling game.

Vikings Topple Jericho (12-1)
Last Friday on April 7, the North Shore Vikings turned around their losing streak defeating Jericho 12-1. This was North Shore's first league game which puts them out to a good start for the race to the first round playoffs on Monday, May 22. With all the practice from the nonleague and scrimmage games North Shore has been able to achieve a well-rounded team, which will help them be a good competitor in this year's season.
