In a letter to the editor, Sea Cliff Mayor Claudia Moyne stated that "... a campaign has been waged in the local press against the Sea Cliff Village Board." She goes on to complain about what she views as "personal attacks on the mayor and village trustees." Madam Mayor I am sorry that you have taken this so personally, but maybe you should not have taken the mayoral position if you can not stand up to some scrutiny. You hold the most public office in the village and we, the citizens, have the right to express how we view your leadership. If you feel attacked, maybe you should consider how Mayor Tom Suozzi feels, or even the SCTPA President Joseph Reilly.

What this all comes down to is whether or not the residents in the Village of Sea Cliff want our mayor waging war, at our expense, on our neighboring City of Glen Cove. Mayor Moyne and the Sea Cliff Trustees continue to claim that they are surprised by Glen Cove starting this ferry service but they have been aware of its imminence for years. In August of 1996 Tom Suozzi released the Glen Cove Creek Revitalization Plan (portions of which were printed in Newsday 8/11/96). Included in this plan was the preparation for a high-speed ferry. Additionally, this ferry was spoken of at several Sea Cliff Board Meetings over the past 2 1/2 years. It was suggested many times that there needed to be a better plan yet one was never presented.

Sea Cliff Trustee Ted Kopczynski calls for "openness and honesty on the ferry/lawsuit issue," yet the board privately met with attorney Kenneth Robinson after a village board meeting a month ago. Since the ferry issue was the most talked about topic at the public portion of the meeting, why did the board choose against announcing they were meeting with this attorney in private session. Additionally the board invited the SCTPA president to meet with them privately instead of publicly. Private meetings are not a consideration of openness.

Trustee Vito Capuco claims they sought the opinions of residents for two years, yet he has no documentation of this poll.

Mayor Moyne claims that "we (the village board) have not used any money for private organizations." Yet in a press conference, Alliance Against the Ferry President, Norm Parsons stated they were receiving "contributions from the Village of Sea Cliff" to help pay their litigation bills.

Am I for the ferry? Not necessarily. Am I against the ferry? Not necessarily. Am I sick and tired of a little village government acting on behalf of a few at the expense of many? Absolutely. Mayor Moyne is incorrect in her belief that the residents expect her to use her best judgment. We expect her to represent our best interests and this litigation against Glen Cove nor the village's association with the Alliance is in our best interest.
