The Glen Cove Board of Education held a special meeting on March 13 in the high school. As the meeting progressed, the board set the agenda for next week, heard a report from Robert Desiano, the district's coordinator of computer services, voted on several items and offered a discussion on the proposed budget's instructional program allotments.

Scheduled for action during next week's meeting at 7 p.m. in the high school are: CSE minutes; financial reports; resolution for the Glen Cove Board of Education to petition the NY State Legislature to abolish all teacher appointments to tenure in the public schools and the board's adoption of a school calendar for next year. The board of education also made a list of topics to discuss with Mayor Thomas Suozzi and the City Council during a future meeting. The tentative topics are tax certioraris, civil service, building a new relationship between the city and school district, school district membership on the Community Development Agency and the reassessment of properties in Glen Cove.

The animosity harbored by some board members against fellow members reached an all time high during the meeting last Monday. Board members Dr. Jeff Spector and Robert Lupinskie were emphatic in stating their dismay with a letter to the editor written by board member Phil Enright and published in this newspaper last week. Dr. Spector said that every time Mr. Enright doesn't get his way after a board vote, Mr. Enright takes pen in hand and "bashes" the board. Dr. Spector said Mr. Enright should join the board at the table and work together with them. He also said there was a question of ethics on Mr. Enright's behalf because his letter essentially called the members of the Glen Cove Board of Education liars. Mr. Lupinskie also questioned Mr. Enright's ethics saying that Mr. Enright statement in the second paragraph of the letter was in fact not accurate and misleading to the public. Mr. Lupinskie said the statement serves his own ends and not the ends of the public. Mr. Enright said it wasn't easy coming to board of education meetings and he takes comfort that away from these meetings the majority of people in Glen Cove agree with his views. Tempers flared despite repeated appeals by several board members for everyone to work together for the benefit of Glen Cove's children. During a brief adjournment Mr. Enright and Mr. Lupinskie engaged in a heated discussion and were separated by interim schools superintendent Dr. Elliot Garfinkel.

The Glen Cove Board of Education is preparing a letter in response to Mr. Enright's.
